Mr. Hammond at Philmont in 1986
Robert P. Hammond was born on April 17th, 1937. He was a lifelong Ayer resident. He attended Ayer High School and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Ayer American Legion Post #309, was a life member of the Ayer Gun & Sportsman’s Club and for nearly 60 years Mr. Hammond remained active in BSA Troop 2 Ayer.
He sadly passes away on April 7th, 2021 at the age of 83 but left many many photographs and memories.

Richard P (Dude) Durand was born on November 5th, 1957. Richard was a lifelong scout starting with the Acton Cub Scouts in 1963. He earned the rank of Eagle in 1972 and breifly led scouts in Omaha, Nebraska while he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force.
In the early 1990's he became Scoutmaster of BSA Troop 7 Shirley and Provisional Scoutmaster for Camp Wanocksett in 1992 before him and his wife welcomed their daughter. He volunteered with the Girl Scout's in Winchendon, MA and later on in Shirley, MA for Troop 900.
In 2009, he became the Scoutmaster of Troop 2 Ayer and Assistant Crew Advisor for Crew 34 Shirley. In 2013, he served as Scoutmaster to BSA Troop D220 for Nashua Valley Council in the National Jamboree.
Richard sadly passed away on June 11th, 2020 at the age of 62 and left behind a lasting legacy in scouting across Massachusetts and the United States.

After Scoutmaster Dude, Troop 2 was led by Mr. Mayes from 2019-2022 Mr. Mayes stepped down to take a job with the Heart of New England Council office.
Troop 2 is now led by Mr. D'Ambrosio!
